PFM vs Ceramic Crowns
At McKay’s Mill Dental, it’s our mission to ensure the healthiest teeth possible, and that may include restorative dental services, such as crowns. A crown is a cap placed over a tooth to cover and protect it.
Dental crowns have undergone many changes since their inception. In the past, materials such as metal and gold were the strongest options available, but they obviously left a lot to be desired when considering esthetics and better options are available today.
Porcelain fused to metal crowns have been the standard for many years now and are still the appropriate choice in some situations. They are relatively strong, and esthetics can be good if prepared correctly. Over the last few years advances in materials have allowed all-porcelain crowns to become a viable option. All-porcelain crowns can appear to be more lifelike and translucent due to the lack of a metal substructure.
If you need a crown or other restorative dental care, your Franklin dentist, Dr. Matt Avrit, will assess your needs and discuss your options with you. He’ll provide the information you need to make the best decision for healthy, functioning teeth. Call us today at 615-595-5959 and schedule an appointment.
