Dental Implants

If you have missing teeth, it's always a good idea to replace them as soon as possible. When you do, you'll be able to chew comfortably, speak clearly, and smile confidently again around others. We recommend dental implants because they look, feel, and function exactly like a natural tooth. Once your dental implant is in place, you’ll have a healthier smile, and a new tooth that no one will guess isn’t natural.

At McKay’s Mill Dental, Dr. Matt Avrit uses dental implants to replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or a full upper or lower arch of teeth. We perform the entire implant procedure at our Franklin dental office so you can relax knowing that you are in the best possible hands.

Understanding How Dental Implants Work

A dental implant is a titanium post that Dr. Avrit places surgically into the jawbone in the area of a missing tooth. He uses modern technology called 3-D cone beam imaging to ensure that the implant is placed in the optimal position in your jaw to ensure positive long-term results.

After Dr. Avrit places the implant, the bone is given time to heal around the post, and a dental crown or other tooth restoration is placed on top of it to restore chewing function.

Benefits of Tooth Replacement with Dental Implants

In addition to an impressive 95 percent success rate, dental implants offer numerous benefits for almost anyone who needs to replace missing teeth.

  • A standalone restoration that doesn’t involve altering other teeth
  • A long-term tooth replacement that lasts a lifetime with proper care
  • A tooth replacement that looks, feels, and functions like a real tooth
  • A replacement tooth root that helps prevent bone loss in the jaw
  • A solid foundation for a dental crown, bridge, or full or partial denture

Dental implants have improved the lives of millions of people worldwide. Dr. Avrit and his dental team would love to play a part in doing the same for you.

Are You a Good Candidate for Dental Implants?

In general, anyone who wants to replace missing teeth and is healthy enough for oral surgery is a candidate for a dental implant. The main concern is that the area of the jawbone where we need to place the implant post be dense and strong enough to support it.

Dr. Avrit determines this using cone beam imaging, and even if you’re not a candidate at this time, he may be able to help you. Bone grafting is a procedure that builds up the bone in your jaw and makes it possible for you to get a dental implant in the future.

How Dental Implants Work

A dental implant is a titanium post that Dr. Avrit places surgically into the area of a missing tooth. After the bone is given time to heal around the implant, we may then place a crown, bridge, or denture on top of the implant.

Dental implants offer other benefits, too; they’re not susceptible to tooth decay, and we don’t have to alter adjacent teeth to replace a missing tooth. A dental implant is also an alternative to a bridge or partial removable denture and can also stabilize a complete denture for ultimate stability.

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)

3-D cone beam imaging is advanced x-ray scanning technology that allows us to easily view your teeth, soft tissues, sinuses, nasal cavity, and nerve pathways. Because the images of these structures are three-dimensional, we can see a clear, detailed view of them at any angle.

Because cone-beam CT shows us both bone and soft tissue, Dr. Avrit can precisely diagnose and plan procedures like dental implant placement, root canals, and tooth extraction.

CBCT is a safe and widely-used imaging process that is fast, non-invasive, and pain-free. Using cone beam technology ensures that Dr. Avrit obtains the most precise assessment possible of your teeth and jaws.
