McKay's Mill Dental

Technology

At McKay’s Mill Dental, we offer the latest dental technology to ensure the most precise diagnostics and a comfortable, convenient experience for our valued patients. We also believe in protecting our environment, and our materials and processes reflect our effort in sustainability and earth-friendliness.

  • Instrument sterilization is steam-based and contains no harmful chemicals.
  • We practice mercury-free dentistry as all of the fillings we place are tooth-colored.
  • In most cases, we utilize metal-free crowns.
  • Most crowns are fabricated in the office, which reduces shipping and transportation needs.

For expert and precision care, trust McKay’s Mill Dental for the oral health of your entire family.

3-D Cone Beam Computed Tomograhy (CBCT)

3-D cone beam imaging is advanced x-ray scanning technology that allows us to easily view your teeth, soft tissues, sinuses, nasal cavity, and nerve pathways. Because the images of these structures are three-dimensional, we can see a clear, detailed view of them at any angle.

Because cone-beam CT shows us both bone and soft tissue, Dr. Avrit can precisely diagnose and plan procedures like dental implant placement, root canals, and tooth extraction.

CBCT is a safe and widely-used imaging process that is fast, non-invasive, and pain-free. Using cone beam technology ensures that Dr. Avrit obtains the most precise assessment possible of your teeth and jaws.

Intraoral Cameras

Our intraoral cameras are the best way for you to understand what’s happening with your oral health. These are small handheld cameras that our dentist uses to show you the same view of your mouth that he sees when performing an exam. Intraoral cameras allow us to capture real-time digital images of your mouth that we then display on your chairside monitor.

You and Dr. Avrit can review the images together as he points out any areas of concern and explains why he recommends treatment.

Rotary Endodontics

The traditional method for performing a root canal involves manual instruments that do a thorough yet time-consuming job. At McKay’s Mill Dental, Dr. Avrit has invested in rotary endodontic technology that speeds your treatment and reduces the time you need to spend in the dental chair.

Rotary endodontic technology is power-driven, so our dentist can work most efficiently. And the design of the instrument allows him to easily reach deep into the smallest areas to remove every trace of infection from your tooth thoroughly.

Many of our patients report that a root canal with rotary endodontics is the most comfortable and efficient they’ve ever experienced!

iTero Digital Impressions

If you've ever had any dental work like crowns or bridges done, you may remember the process of having dental impressions taken. You had to bite down on a metal tray filled with messy impression material and hold it between your teeth until it set.

With leading-edge digital impression technology, we eliminate the need for the entire process, which results in a more comfortable experience for you.

A digital impression is a highly detailed computer-generated 3-D model that we obtain by scanning your teeth. There’s no impression material involved, and the image is transferred to a computer that uses it to create highly accurate and lifelike restorations like veneers, crowns, and bridges.

Panoramic X-Rays

Similar to a panoramic image taken with your phone, panoramic x-rays give us a single continuous image of your entire mouth. For example, with a panoramic x-ray, our dentist can see an overview of all your teeth, your TMJ, and the location of your sinuses. We don’t use panoramic x-rays to detect cavities, but we can find larger areas of concern like impacted teeth, infections, tumors, and cysts.

We take panoramic x-rays by having you stand in front of the x-ray unit. As you stand still, the arm of the x-ray machine moves around your head to take the image. For this reason, we often recommend panoramic x-rays instead of intraoral (in the mouth) x-rays for children and adults with a strong gag reflex.

Digital Records

We aim to make every aspect of your dental visit as efficient, comfortable, and stress-free as possible. With digital patient records, we can store your entire dental health history safely and securely on our in-house network. There’s no sorting through piles of paperwork because all of your vital information is available at the click of a button.

Digital records are also easy to share securely with specialists and insurance providers as needed.

Digital X-Rays

At McKay’s Mill Dental, your family’s comfort and safety are our priorities. We use digital x-rays for several reasons, but mainly because they help reduce your radiation exposure by up to 80 percent compared to film x-rays.

Dental x-rays are essential, and our dentist couldn’t diagnose problems or recommend treatment without them. In addition, digital x-rays show us a lot of important details that we can easily share with you on your chairside monitor.

These high-resolution images pick up details like cavities in their earliest stages, and when you and Dr. Avrit view them together, he can point out these problem areas, and you become part of the process. You can see what he sees, which helps you understand why we recommend treatment and how it benefits you. It's crucial that you understand your dental needs because being informed allows you to make informed, confident decisions about your treatment.

We store all your x-rays securely in your digital patient record so that they’re available for us to view at the touch of a button.

Nitrous Oxide

Nitrous oxide is also known as "laughing gas" or "happy gas" and is a completely safe and effective technique for relieving pain and discomfort and calming nervous or apprehensive patients.

You won’t go to sleep with nitrous oxide, but you will feel calmer and much more relaxed during your appointment. You will know where you are and what’s happening, but it will seem very far away.

We administer nitrous through a comfortable nose mask that delivers a steady stream of nitrous oxide mixed with oxygen. Our dental team is trained to safely use nitrous oxide and monitor you throughout treatment to make sure you’re calm and comfortable.
